Workplace Discrimination: Worker Sues Sex Shop for Sexual Orientation Discrimination
Sacramento – A former worker of an adult shop in Auburn Boulevard has recently filed charges against the company as it allegedly practiced sexual orientation discrimination and made him allow patrons to illegally engage in sexual acts while inside the shop, reports said.
In his lawsuit filed on April 15 at the Sacramento Superior Court, Michael Beaton alleges that he lost a promotion at Suzie’s Adult Superstore under Janra Enterprise because he was not a homosexual.
Beaton was hired in March 2009 as a part-time security guard and he lost his promotion to be a sales person after passing tests as he was told by a supervisor that he was not gay.
According to the 13-page lawsuit, Beaton was allegedly forced by the management to make alterations in the shop to allow customers engage in sexual acts while viewing videos in a booth.
Aside from this, Beaton also claims that he was obliged to pick-up used condoms and hypodermic needles which ultimately put his health at risk. Beaton is claiming for compensatory and punitive damages, including legal fees.
