SEXUAL DISCRIMINATION: Walmart Faces Largest Discrimination Suit in US History
March 28, 2011
Washington – A large-scale class action sexual discrimination suit has been filed against the world’s largest retailer that could involve 500,000 to about 1.6 million female plaintiffs reports said.
Christine Kwapnoski, 46, a Walmart employee for 25 years and one of the plaintiffs, complained against the unfair treatment of female employees. Some of the discriminatory actions include barring female employees from promotions and salary increases.
According to reports, Kwapnoski and other sexual discrimination claimants would probably cost billions of dollars as compensation for damages and losses – the largest in U.S. history.
Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, employers and company owners are prohibited to take any discriminatory action against their employees based on race, gender, age, religion and national origin.
The Supreme Court will review the complaint on Tuesday and consider the arguments from both parties.
