EMPLOYMENT HARASSMENT: Wal-Mart Agrees to Settle $440,000-Harassment Suit

April 14, 2011

Fresno – The retail giant has agreed to pay a total of $440,000 and to review their policies on discrimination to settle a lawsuit filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Thursday, reports said.

In the harassment suit, nine plaintiffs who were of Mexican descent and one who was married to a Mexican claims that they were subjected to daily derogatory remarks made by a Mexican-American worker at the Wal-Mart owned and operated store, Sam’s Club.

According to reports, mangers failed to do anything about the harassment that the plaintiffs first voiced out in April of 2006.

The EEOC filed a complaint in October of the same year and the employee who harassed the plaintiffs was fired after two months.
