Villaraigosa and Schwarzenegger Announces Youth Jobs Plan

Los Angeles, CA – Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced Monday the plan to seek jobs for 16,500 youths over the next year as part of the Hire L.A.’s Youth program.
The funding was discussed in the steps of City Hall where Villaraigosa and Schwarzenegger were joined by 300 students who have acquired part-time or summer jobs.
This program, which received a $20.5 million increase from the stimulus package of President Obama, works with education officials and numerous companies to locate jobs for at-risk individuals ages 16 to 24.
Villaraigosa said that the program has expanded from 2005 with approximately 3,000 participants to 13,500 this year.
