Employment: Unpaid Leave for Police Officer Arrested for Gambling

June 3, 2011

Chula Vista – After being suspected of cheating while gambling at Sycuan Casino, a 30-year-old and a 9-year veteran of the Chula Vista Police Department was arrested and was placed under unpaid leave.

Jesus Salazar was arrested last Thursday night on suspicion of “capping”. Capping is a gambling term for adding chips on the bet that has already been won.

Authorities said that Salazar is facing misdemeanor charges. He was booked in the county jail and can only be bailed on $10,000.

Aside from the current charges, he was already arrested for driving under the influence in April by Sycuan Tribal Police.

According to Chula Vista Police Chief David Bejarano, Salazar will remain on leave until internal investigation is completed.
