EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION: University in Alabama Slapped with Racial Discrimination Suit

March 24, 2011

Montgomery, Alabama - At least nine former employees at the Auburn University athletic department have filed a racial discrimination case against the school, alleging that they were reassigned or laid off from their job because they are African-American.

According to reports, the case, which was filed in the US District Court, claimed that four former custodial employees were transferred to other departments after the university relocated from Beard-Eves Coliseum to a smaller new Auburn Arena.

Meanwhile, five other employees were laid off last May.

The suit alleged that 10 out of the 11 workers who were fired during the reorganization are black.
