EMPLOYMENT NEWS: US Unemployment rate Rises to 9.6% despite Gov’t efforts
September 3, 2010
Washington DC - The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics and Department of Labor reported a 9.6% increase in unemployment rate as of August 31, 2010.
The rate escalated to a percent compared to 9.5% holding for the months of July and August 2010. The unemployment surge triggered after the massive 114,000 workers lay off in U.S. Census office, reports said.
President Barack Obama asserted that the private sector had managed to hire about 67,000 new employees to counteract the heave in unemployment rate for August 2010.
Economists commented that Obama's efforts have remained inadequate to avert the current 54,000 net employment loss. Studies reveal that about 100,000 more jobs every month are needed to resolve the unemployment crisis in United States.
Economists said that the statistics report has called for a review of Tier V and unemployment benefit extension for the remaining months of 2010.
