EMPLOYMENT LAW: State to Appeal Back Pays of State Workers

February 25, 2010

California – Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said that the state will appeal the ruling that orders them to pay all federally-funded employees the salary they lost because of the illegal furloughs imposed by the state, reports said.

Alameda County judge Frank Roesch had recently ordered the state to pay the full salary of workers whose budgets are not taken from the state’s general funds. The back pays is said to be worth millions which the state thought it saved by imposing furloughs a year ago.

Most of the affected employees that will be receiving back pays if Roesch’s decision is upheld in appeals are working for the Franchise Tax Board, Department of Motor Vehicles, and Employment Development Department.
