EMPLOYMENT LAW: Southern California Red Cross Workers Join Nationwide Strike
June 2, 2010
Los Angeles – Some Red Cross workers from Southern California have joined the three-day strike in Pomona and across five cities across the United States for what they call unfair labor practices by the organization.
According to the Office and Professional Employees International Union Local 459 in Lansing, Michigan, the nationwide strike started at around 9:00am last Wednesday where close to 1,000 workers joined in the protest.
The protest was in response to Red Cross unilaterally cutting their benefits.
Red Cross response to the claim is that the organization is seeking concessions during this economic difficulty.
Union officials said that even though the strikes have cancelled some of the blood drives, there will be enough supplies of blood for patients.
The other cities where strikes are taking place include Farmington, CT; Huntington, WV; Buffalo, NY, and Toledo, OH.
