EMPLOYMENT HARASSMENT: Sergeant to Receive $211,700 as Settlement for Harassment Claim

February 9, 2011

Los Angeles – The jury has released a decision awarding a Los Angeles County sheriff’s sergeant with $211,700 as settlement for a sexual harassment claim last Tuesday, reports said.

According to the suit filed in 2008, Sgt. Tera White endured several years of sexual harassment by her superior, Lt. Patrick Valdez. White said Valdez often asked her out on dates and gave her unwanted kisses.

White eventually complained when Valdez began harassing her. Then, she was taken to Sheriff’s Department Star Center in Whittier to handle a job which she said was for interns.

The jury rejected White’s retaliation complaint, but was awarded the harassment claim. Aside from the monetary compensation, Valdez may also face federal charges which can lead to suspension.
