EMPLOYMENT LAW: Schwarzenegger Proposes Unpaid Leave Day Instead of Furloughs

May 14, 2010

Sacramento - Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has proposed that the furlough program, which is scheduled to end on June 30, can be replaced by a monthly unpaid leave for state employees in 2010-11.

According to reports, employees will be required to take one day of unpaid leave each month, causing their salary to be reduced by about 4.45 per cent.

Workers will be given credits in order for them to go on leave. However, it will not have any cash value so employees will not be compensated by it when they retire or separate from the state.
