Sacramento's Fire District Eliminates 24 Job Posts
August 19, 2009
Sacramento - The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District announced Wednesday that 24 of their non-firefighting employees will be laid off in accordance with the cost-cutting efforts of the organization.
The two dozen employees covering 4 percent of the district’s workforce from administrative, finance and other departments which don’t concern the actual firefighting will be laid-off immediately, spokesman Capt. Rusty Dupray said.
The said cuts will allow the district to save $4 million and meet their goal of saving up $11 million to aid the property tax revenue.
The district had saved $7 million earlier by closing down three of their fire stations and demoting some of their officers.
Dupray assured the public that the recent layoffs will not directly affect the operation of the fire stations which serves around 600,000 people in their district.
