EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION: Rejected Pregnant Applicant Sues Capri Home Care Inc.
October 11, 2011
Tampa- A pregnant worker has sued Capri Home Care Inc. after the employer rejected her application, according to US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) reports on Thursday.
Reports said the woman applied for the administrative assistant/ billing clerk post. The management was impressed with her and hired her the following day. During the orientation, the worker disclosed that she is pregnant. After an hour, the management withdrew the job offer. The woman discovered that Capri eventually hired a non-pregnant applicant instead.
The aggrieved worker filed a complaint with EEOC, stating that her application was rejected on the basis of her pregnancy. The federal agency filed the discrimination lawsuit in US District Court for the Middle District, Tampa Division after initiating a conciliation process, reports said.
Reports said EEOC is seeking compensatory and punitive damages on behalf of the pregnant worker.
