EMPLOYMENT LAW: Possible Layoffs for Shasta High Teachers

February 22, 2010

Redding - Teachers at the Shasta Union High School District may receive layoff notices after the school board of trustees issues a draft resolution aimed at closing a $3 million budget deficit for the coming school year.

The said resolution will affect about 20 teachers, 11 of which are retiring and some are temporary teachers.

Teachers at the high school district earlier dodged massive layoffs as 158 teachers received layoff notices last year.

The layoffs are expected to save at least $1 million and some programs in the Shasta High would have to be abolished.
