EMPLOYMENT LAW: Pleasanton Workers Rally to Protest Ongoing Lockout
March 28, 2010
Pleasanton - Castlewood Country Club workers have held a rally to show their dismay after they were locked out from their jobs due to a disagreement regarding the cost of their health insurance.
Reports stated that the march, which was organized by Unite Here! Hospitality Workers Union Local 2850, was attended by over 85 people.
This union represents around 60 club workers including servers, dishwashers, and cooks.
Workers were reportedly locked out by the country club’s management 32 days ago after the two parties failed to come up with an agreement regarding the amount employees are required to pay for their own health insurance.
The union suggested that workers who are qualified to receive health benefits should pay at least $225 a month for family medical coverage. However, the management wanted these employees to pay around $739 a month for it, said reports.
