Philadelphia Firm Discriminated a Muslim Employee, Being Required to Pay $50,000

November 30, 2011

Philadelphia – A Philadelphia company that terminated a Muslim woman because of refusing to remove her religious garb during work hours is being required to pay $50,000 for employment discrimination suit.

According to Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) press release, Imperial Security failed to reasonably accommodate the religious belief of Julie Holloway-Russel by requiring her not to wear her khimar.

The press release added that upon refusal of Holloway-Russel to remove her khimar, the company decided to terminate her.

Imperial Security is set to pay a total of $50,000 to its former employer for violating the provisions of the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act that prohibits religious discrimination in the workplace.
