EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION: Pepsi Company in Minneapolis Settles Race Discrimination Charge with $300 Million

January 13, 2012

Minneapolis – At least 300 African Americans employees of Pepsi Beverages in Minneapolis will receive a total of $300 million as the company agreed to pay the settlement with respect to race discrimination charge, reports said.

According to the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Pepsi’s policy regarding criminal background check has indirectly discriminated African American employees of the company.

Investigations of the EEOC found out that the policy hinders black employees not to obtain employment position.

Due to the company’s policy, certain African American employees were not hired because they have an arrest history but were not convicted.

According to EEOC, the policy of Pepsi in Minneapolis is a form of race discrimination thus the company violated the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
