EMPLOYMENT LAW: Ocean City Mayor and City Council Settles Age Discrimination Suit
October 21, 2011
Baltimore- Ocean City Mayor and City Council have agreed to pay $38,000 as settlement for an age discrimination lawsuit filed by an employee, according to US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) reports on Thursday.
Reports said Anthony Indge, a temporary line technician and an airport associate for Ocean City, was rejected for a full-time post because of his age. He reported the hiring manager's misconduct, but the administration responded by refusing to rehire him.
As stated in the lawsuit, Indge, 62, started to work for Ocean City in 2007. He applied for a full time airport associate later, but the manager told him he was too old for the position. When he complained on the discrimination, the administration retaliated against him.
The aggrieved employee reported the discrimination act to EEOC, in which the agency filed the lawsuit in US District Court for the District of Maryland after initiating a conciliation process, reports said.
Reports said the Ocean City mayor and city council has assented to pay $38,000 as settlement for the worker as well as comply with EEOC regulations.
