Obama Signs Bill Extending Californians Unemployment Benefits up to 14 Weeks

November 6, 2009

Washington - President Barrack Obama has recently signed a bill which would extend unemployment benefits received by workers in states, like California, where the rates of job loss and unemployment are higher.

The bill aims to extend unemployment benefits up to fourteen weeks in all states and up to 20 weeks in states where unemployment rates are high.

California officials, on the other hand, say that the unemployed workers in the state would only get only up to 14 weeks in extension because of a sunset provision included in an earlier bill. Some 170,000 workers will be affected by the said extensions in the state alone.

The extensions are expected to aid the financial needs of some 2 million people nationwide who lost their jobs because of the on-going financial crisis.
