EMPLOYMENT LAW: New Law Allows State Workers to Be Paid Even with Late Budget

June 3, 2010

Sacramento – The state Assembly has recently passed a bill that would make it possible for state employees to get paid even when the Legislature fails to enact a new budget according to an Associated Press report.

The bill, AB 1699, introduced by Democratic Assemblyman Ed Hernandez passed legislation on a 54-17 vote. The bill is now headed for the Senate for approval.

On the other hand, a spokesperson of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said the governor may not sign the bill as they would have to determine its effects or impact on the state financial situation.

Legislators however said that they are willing to make changes or amendments to the bill.
