EMPLOYMENT LAW: New California Laws in Effect on First Day of 2012

December 28, 2011

Los Angeles – New laws will take effect in the State of California on January 1, 2012, including the new child safety seat requirement, reports said.

Reports said that in this law, drivers will be required to buckle up their children into a car or booster seat.

Before, the California child safety seat requirement is for children under the age of six or those weighing 60 pounds. In this new law, the said requirement will be for children under the age of eight, or under 4 feet, 9 inches tall.

It will also apply to children who are 8 years old or older but not tall enough for the seat belt to fit properly, reports said. This new law intends to increase the child’s chances of surviving a car crash by 45 percent.

Another notable California law will no longer require the police to impound vehicles at sobriety checkpoints if the motorist’s only offense is driving without a license, reports said.
