More Layoffs Expected In May

March 20, 2009

Los Angeles - At least 358 employees from five companies would lose their job by the end of May, the Employment Development Department (EDD) said.

The Toshiba America Information System Inc in Irvine had filed a notice with the EDD that by May 11, it would lay off 120 of its workers. Details on the affected company departments are yet to be released.

Early March, the Mercury Insurance Services announced that it would cut 94 employees off its workforce in its Brea offices on May 8. According to reports, the company had already laid off more than 300 workers.

Also in May 8, the Apex technology Holdings Inc. in Anaheim had declared that 72 employees would be eliminated.

Stremicks Heritage Foods in Santa Ana reported that they would be eliminating one position in the company.

Another company that had announced cut in their workforce is Sears, Roebuck & Co. The company confirmed that they would be cutting off 72 of their workers in their Tustin store.

More notices of layoffs are expected to be filed with the EDD in the coming months.
