EMPLOYMENT SEXUAL HARASSMENT: Missouri-based Cactus Grill Agrees to Settle $150,000-Sexual Harassment Suit
November 8, 2010
Kansas City, Missouri – Popular restaurant Cactus Grill and its parent company Northstar Restaurants, Inc. has agreed to a settlement that will end a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against the company a few months ago.
The Equal Employment opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced that the restaurant chain has agreed to pay $150,000 to settle the lawsuit.
The sexual harassment suit was filed by the federal agency last May in behalf of a female server who was allegedly harassed by an older assistant manager.
According to the lawsuit, Cactus Grill discriminated against the female employee when it permitted the harassment to continue and then discharged her from work.
The restaurant chain had already received a harassment complaint regarding the same assistant manager from one other female employee even before the alleged incident in the lawsuit.
Aside from paying $150,000, the terms of the settlement also includes not rehiring the offending assistant manager in all their branches.
Cactus Grill is also required to update its company anti-discrimination policies to meet EEOC requirements, redistribute updated policies to all employees, and provide sexual harassment and anti-discrimination policies and complaint procedure for all managers and assistant managers in all branches and lastly, to report all sexual harassment complaints it received to the EEOC for two years.
