EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION: Metal Forging Company Prestrite Faces Sex Discrimination Lawsuit
February 7, 2011
Cleveland, Ohio – The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed charges against Presrite Corporation for refusing to hire female applicants for certain jobs, the agency announced Monday.
According to the lawsuit, the metal forging company discriminated against a class of female applicants because of their gender after rejecting their applications for labor and operative jobs. Such practice happened as early as 2005.
According to EEOC’s Regional Attorney Debra Lawrence, Presrite violated the Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act which made sex discrimination in employment illegal.
The suit was filed in US District Court for Ohio’s Northern District after pre-litigation settlement through conciliation failed. The EEOC seeks injunctive relief, damages, lost wages, benefits, and offers of employment for the women who were discriminated by Presrite.
During fiscal year 2010, nearly 100,000 workplace discrimination charges were filed with the EEOC.
