EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION: McDonald’s Sued by Former Employee for Discrimination
April 29, 2011
Los Angeles- McDonald’s is now facing charges from a former female employee who alleged that she was required to perform additional tasks and that she received demeaning comments because she is a Nicaraguan.
The lawsuit, which was filed by Maria Bonilla in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleged that she suffered from wrongful constructive termination, retaliation, harassment, and national origin discrimination.
According to the lawsuit, a manager kept on telling Bonilla that Nicaraguans are “nasty” and “lazy” during the whole duration of her employment. In addition, Nicaraguan women were also accused of going after married men and of being “slutty.”
Bonilla also alleged that a second boss and manager required her to carry heavy boxes and to work inside the freezer and on the grill for an extended period of time. When she complained about the problem, she was accused of being lazy and her work hours were also reduced, stated the lawsuit.
The case stated that Bonilla was hired in April 2008 and was fired in May 2009 after she fainted due to the alleged mistreatment she received in the company.
