Lesser Sacramento Employees to be laid Off
June 2, 2009
Sacramento – Despite the state’s release of more than 168 notices to employees, a lot less are expected to be laid off because of labor unions’ tentative deals with the local government.
Dealings such as forgoing of salary increase and furloughs are the reasons why fewer state employees will be booted off their jobs come June 19.
The recent notices are received by around 40 firefighters who are protected by their union’s earlier conditional agreement with the city concerning their salary.
Officials now say that further job cuts will be avoided if labor unions can reach an agreement with the local authorities.
