EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION: LAPD Sued for Mistreating Homosexual Sergeant
May 4, 2011
Los Angeles - A Gay Sergeant filed a discrimination, harassment, and retaliation lawsuit against the Los Angeles Police District for alleged ill-treatment from his supervisors because of his sexual preference.
Sgt. Ronald Crump pointed his supervisor Lt. John Romero for verbal harassment and mockery of his sexual preference.
He also alleges that he has been withheld promotion and desirable duties because of the discriminatory acts. Mary Grady, who oversees Crump’s unit, told him that he was being transferred to an “undesirable assignment” after taking a month-long vacation.
City attorneys say that the transfer was not because of discrimination since he didn’t lose rank or pay. Grady transferred him because he did not work well with Romero.
Crump worked for the LAPD for 7 months.
