EMPLOYMENT LAW: LA County auditors discover 101 employee fraud cases
May 27, 2010
Los Angeles – A group of Los Angeles county auditors has unearthed enough evidence to prove over 100 cases of employee fraud during the latter half of last year.
The report that was released today showed 101 worker fraud cases involving several county departments.
In one case, Department of Public Social Services employee Trang Dinh wrongfully used the personal documents of 82 beneficiaries to file falsified income tax returns. According to reports, investigators would be looking at several factors first before filing charges against him.
In another employee fraud case, three employees of the Los Angeles County Fire Department played golf during their working hours but still had full day on their timecards, and one of them even claimed that he worked overtime.
According to Fire Department Chief Michael Freeman, two of the alleged employee fraud suspects would not be punished because they have worked overtime for a number of days before the act.
The names of the employees who have committed fraudulent actions were not named, though some of them may be confirmed by checking public records and conducting interviews.
