Jury Awards $48 million to Employee Injured at Work
November 26, 2008
Los Angeles - A former Union Pacific Railroad worker will be awarded with $48 million after being left a quadriplegic in a work-related car accident while at job, last year.
The Los Angeles County Superior Court approved the $48 million jury award-the largest verdict ever awarded- under the federal law that covers railroad workers injured on the job.
Eric Doi, 30, was a passenger of a company truck when his co-worker behind the wheel lost control of the vehicle.
The truck then rolled over down an embankment then crashed trough a fence and into oncoming traffic on a highway.
Doi, who is a certified emergency medical technician before, was left a quadriplegic after the car accident.
The former railroad employee is now recuperating from the incident and needs round-the-clock care and rehabilitation.
