EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION: Integrated Broadband Services to pay $60,000 to Settle Race and National Origin Discrimination Suit
April 5, 2011
Atlanta – A broadband company based in Atlanta, Georgia is required to pay $60,000 to resolve a race and national origin discrimination suit filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the EEOC has announced Tuesday.
According to the suit, EEOC filed a legal complaint against Integrated Broadband Services because it has taken discriminatory actions against an employee due to her race and national origin.
In the discrimination suit, the company reportedly fired a black Tanzanian employee because of leaving work 30 minutes ahead of time, while giving just a written warning to a white employee who leaves two hours earlier, two times in one week.
This adverse action violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, prohibiting discrimination based on race, age, sex, religion and national origin.
Aside from paying compensatory damages, Integrated Broadband Services will also be required to submit regular reports on anti-discrimination policies and trainings.
