EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION: Herzog Roofing Agrees to Pay $71,500 for Race Discrimination Suit
June 9, 2011
Minneapolis -- Herzog Roofing has agreed to pay $71,500 to seven employees who have filed race discrimination complaints through the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
According to EEOC, the seven employees who have black, Hispanic, and Indian ethnic origin complained of unfair treatment from their supervisors and inaction from the management. Also, the employer fired the employee who reported the initial complaint.
The seven employees have suffered racial slurs, offensive comments, and hostile treatment from other employees and supervisors. The Herzog management failed to correct the misconduct despite complaints from the aggrieved workers, reports said.
The EEOC initiated mediation and the Herzog management agreed to pay $71,500 as settlement for the race discrimination charge. The employer has also assented to provide anti-discrimination training to all employees, supervisors, and executives.
