April 7, 2011
Sacramento – The hearing for the state’s paid sick leave bill that will provide workers with more days to attend to their illness or to that of their family member’s is set to start on April 13, reports said.
The bill, AB 400, which was proposed by San Francisco Democratic Assemblywoman Fiona Ma in 2008 and 2009 will impose that employers of less than 10 workers give them seven paid sick days annually and companies employing more workers give nine days each year.
According to a study, the bill will cost about $22 billion to California employers.
The states of Maine, Alaska, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Montana, Colorado, and Massachusetts are also considering the implementation of mandatory sick leaves.
