EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION: Healdsburg City Absolved in Discrimination Case Filed by Former Employee
April 26, 2011
Sonoma County– Jurors have deliberated Tuesday and found that Healdsburg city is not guilty of discriminating against a meter reader who alleged that she was removed from her post because of her gender, age, and medical condition.
The 52-year-old complainant, Lorie Beck of Angwin, claims that she was removed from her post after she complained about her sore feet caused by continuous walking and that she overheard that she will be replaced by a younger male employee.
The jury found that the City Manager Marjie Pettus had no way of knowing her condition.
Beck sought around $1.7 million for her lost wages, medical expenses, and retirement benefits.
The verdict came after eight days of testimonies regarding the case.
