Gender Discrimination Law Reason for Dropping Lawsuit

October 13, 2009

Sacramento - A lawsuit challenging gender rating that allegedly violated the California law will be dismissed because of law that bans gender discrimination in terms of health insurance prices. This developed after Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed the bill.

“This law will end discriminatory treatment of women in the individual health insurance market, and help more than a million Californians obtain affordable coverage,” said a state lawyer.

California health insurance companies were not allowed to charge higher rates for women. Men paid less compared to woman who are under 55 years old paying up to 39 percent more. It did not even sometimes covered pregnancy.
