EMPLOYMENT LAW: Furloughs, Raises, Part of Ratified Teacher’s Labor Contract

San Diego - The San Diego Unified School District has recently ratified a labor contract that would impose furloughs and mandates at least three pay increases in the school year 2012-2013.
At least 45% union members approved the labor contract that will result to minor changes in their health care costs and will force them to take five mandated furloughs through school years 2010-2011 and 2011-2012.
In school year 2012-2013, the teachers will receive two separate 2% increases in their salaries and another 3% raise before the school year ends.
It is reported that 3,062 members voted for the new labor contract while another 108 members voted against it
