Former LAFD Firefighter Receives Almost $500,000 for Harassment and Retaliation Claim

February 1, 2012

LOS ANGELES--- After five years of court battle, Anthony Almeida was able to receive a settlement amounting to $494, 150 for his claim of harassment and retaliation against the Los Angeles City Fire Department, according to reports.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) handled the investigation and it was found out that the sexual and religious discrimination stemmed from the lawsuit filed by Almeida against the Catholic Church about sexual abuse he suffered from a priest.

Also, the investigation found that the LAFD failed to make corrective actions after Almeida has disclosed his concern to the Department.

The Fire Department has approved to provide extensive live anti-harassment training to all fire station chiefs and their minion staff, apart from the monetary relief.
