EMPLOYMENT ISSUE: First Round of Layoffs for RT Workers Begins
February 12, 2010
Sacramento –The Sacramento Regional Transit District has announced that layoffs in the department, which is expected to eliminate 300 employees by summer, will begin Friday.
The number of employees to receive the first batch of layoff notices is yet to be determined but officials say that the cuts would not affect train route and bus operations in the district.
The layoffs, which will be first in 25 years, are expected to aid the growing budget deficit. Employees of the transit agency are also warned of more layoffs around June to accommodate the would-be implemented service cuts.
