COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985) – This compels employers to offer the workers and beneficiaries healthcare insurance benefits in events that they lose their jobs.

ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974) – Compels companies to maintain health and retirement plans for their workers. This act also forbids employers to terminate their employees in order to evade providing pension plans.
