EEOC Slaps Ohio-based Corporation with Sexual Discrimination Suit
February 7, 2011
Cleveland, Ohio – The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed a sexual discrimination lawsuit against an Ohio-based metal forging company, the agency said Monday.
According to the report, Presrite Corporation committed sexual discrimination against a group of female employees when it refused to hire them into the company because of their gender. The complainants said the company did not accept female employees for several positions since 2005.
EEOC first made an attempt to settle the dispute with Presrite, seeking damages for lost pay, benefits, and employment opportunities. However, the company failed to comply, which led to the gender discrimination suit.
EEOC Regional Attorney Debra Lawrence said employers should follow the provisions of the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits any form of discrimination based on race, age, gender, national origin, and religion. She said companies who refuse to comply with the law will face charges filed by the EEOC.
