RELIGIOUS DISCRIMINATION: EEOC Files Religious Discrimination Lawsuit against Abercrombie & Fitch
September 2, 2010
Milpitas- The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed a religious discrimination suit against Abercrombie & Fitch (A & F), claiming that an 18-year-old female applicant was rejected because she was wearing a Muslim headscarf.
According to reports, the case was filed in a US District Court in San Francisco. It claimed that the Ohio-based company performed discriminatory practices based on an individual’s religion.
EEOC alleged that in March 2008, the woman applied for a stocking position at an Abercrombie Kids store at the Great Mall. She was wearing a hijab at that time.
Reports said the agency filed a similar case against A&F the previous year in Tulsa, Okla.
