EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION: EEOC Announces Settlement of Discrimination Case against 3M

August 24, 2011

Minneapolis, Minnesota - The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has announced the settlement of a discrimination case filed by the agency on behalf of around 290 former 3M workers against the company, with the latter agreeing to pay about $3 million.

According to reports, the agency filed a case against 3M in US District Court in Minneapolis, claiming that hundreds of employees who are older than 45-years-old were laid off from July 1, 2003 up to December 31, 2006.

Under a consent decree, the company was also required to train supervisors and managers regarding ways on how to avoid age discrimination, said reports.
