SEXUAL HARASSMENT: Dunkin’ Donuts Franchise Settles Sexual Harassment Case, Agrees to Pay $290,000
June 1, 2011
New York- College View Donuts, which is doing business as Dunkin’ Donuts, has settled sexual harassment charges brought against it by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) by agreeing to pay $290,000 to the aggrieved female employees.
The lawsuit, which was filed in US District Court for the Northern District of New York, alleged that female employees at the Wynantskill franchise were sexual harassed by the manager. Some of these employees are aged 16 and 17.
The agency claimed that the female employees were hugged and touched inappropriately by the manager, who also allegedly “made lewd sexual comments” against them.
EEOC also alleged that at least two workers already complained about the problem about a year before, but the company failed to do anything to stop the manager from performing such violation.
The employees were forced to report the manager’s conduct to the authorities, which then led to his arrest and termination.
Aside from providing the $290,000 settlement pay to the aggrieved parties, the company also agreed to revise its anti-discrimination complaint procedures and policies.
