EMPLOYMENT LAW: Disney Workers Stage Strike for Alleged Labor Violations
June 11, 2010
Anaheim – Some 200 hotel workers at Disney have walked off their jobs to stage a one-day strike yesterday in protest of alleged labor law violations of their employer.
Reports said the striking workers belong to Local 11 of the Unite Here union, who complained on behalf of other 1,200 Disney employees who have working without a contract for more than two years. The union is asking Disney to sit down for contract negotiation.
The workers also protested against unreasonable reduction made by the resort on their healthcare coverage. In addition to this, the workers also charged Disney of violation in seniority, workplace safety and other rules.
Disney has yet to issue an official statement but denied the allegations.
