EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION: Discrimination Case Filed by Filipinos Hospital Workers to be Heard in 2011

December 9, 2010

Delano - A lawsuit filed by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in behalf of 34 Filipino hospital workers who allege that they were subjected to ethnic discrimination will be heard on January 18, court records show.

In the 12-page lawsuit, the Filipino workers claim that they were warned not to speak Tagalog even during their breaks yet other workers from other countries were allowed to speak in their own language.

The workers claim that such treatment created a hostile work environment and mental distress.

The lawsuit was filed under the Eastern District Court of California in Bakersfield last August.
