RELIGIOUS DISCRIMINATION: Detroit Nursing Home Faces Lawsuit for Discriminating against Jehovah’s Witness Employee

December 13, 2011

Detroit – A Detroit-based nursing home is facing legal charges for discriminating against a Jehovah’s Witness employee because of her religion, news reports said.

In a press statement released by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Whitehall Healthcare terminated its employee who is an adherer of Jehovah’s Witness due to her religious practices.

Reports claim that the nursing home failed to reasonably accommodate the employee’s religious practices when she was never allowed to excuse herself from working during Wednesdays and Sundays to attend to church services.

EEOC has filed a lawsuit against the company for violating the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
