EMPLOYMENT LAW: Dept of Labor Releases Grant to Laid-off Oregon Aircraft Workers

May 2, 2011

Washington– The US Department of Labor has released some $279,373 as National Emergency Grant to assists about 280 workers affected by layoffs at the Cessna Aircraft Company facility in Bend, Oregon, a statement from the agency website said.

Secretary Hilda Solis said the fund was given to provide affected workers with re-employment and training services.

"I am pleased that this funding will ensure workers who lost their jobs through no fault of their own can continue to receive training and other related services, which will help them in broadening their skill sets and securing employment in some of Oregon's promising industries," Solis stressed.

The statement said the National Emergency Grant was approved on October 2009 and the recent funding is the second increment of the grant. It is being awarded to the Oregon Department of Community Colleges and Workforce Development.
