Cyma Orchids to Pay $200,000 to Latina Workers for National Origin and Sex Discrimination Charges
November 29, 2011Los Angeles – Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has announced that Cyma Orchids, Inc. is set to pay $200,000 to its former employees to resolve several employment discrimination complaints.
A class suit was filed by Latina employees of the Oxnard-based orchid farm company for discriminating against workers based on their national origin, reports said.
Furthermore, according to EEOC’s press release, the company’s supervisors, managers, and owners have sexually harassed the complainants. The firm’s executives are accused of touching the women employees’ breasts and buttocks.
EEOC’s press release has also stated that Cyma Orchids has violated provisions of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. The company is being required to pay the affected employees with $200,000 for settlement.
