Council to Decide on Weast’s Case
January 11, 2010
Montebello - Council members will vote on Wednesday to decide if fire department police Chief Daniel Weast will be officially replaced by an interim official after he was charged in a discrimination lawsuit.
Last month, Weast was placed on administrative leave after 13 police officers accused him of committing racial discrimination and charged him with a $30 million lawsuit.
In response to the issue, Mayor Bill Molinari said he expects the lawsuit to be immediately resolved.
Meanwhile, some councilmen fear that if Weast is put into early retirement or fired, the city will be vulnerable to employment-related lawsuits.
In a lawsuit filed last year, Weasly has been accused of favoring his “white friends” by promoting them instead of other police officers who were more qualified and experienced.
However, some people closed to Weast denied the allegations against the fire police chief, adding that he is married to a Hispanic woman and have two daughters with her.
