EMPLOYMENT LAW: Black Worker Sues Sausage Company for Race Discrimination

Memphis, Tennessee - An employee of Williams Country Sausage Company filed a discrimination lawsuit after his employer refused to give him fair salary on the basis of his race.
The African-American maintenance employee was denied of salary raise and has suffered offensive remarks from his supervisor, reports said.
According to reports, the Williams Country Sausage administration has given higher wage rate and increments to white employees except for the African-American worker. The maintenance department's supervisor also hurled repeated racial insults to the worker.
The employee reported the misconduct to Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The federal agency then filed the lawsuit in US District Court for the Western District of Tennessee.
The Williams Country Sausage Company entered into conciliation process with EEOC and agreed to pay $60,000. The employer also agreed to post notice of EEOC regulations, conduct anti-discrimination training to employees, and report similar cases.
Williams Country Sausage is a Union City-based factory that produces meat and sandwich products for retail sale.
