RELIGIOUS DISCRIMINATION: Abercrombie & Fitch Found Guilty of Religious Discrimination

July 18, 2011

Oklahoma- Abercrombie & Fitch, a clothing Giant which is also operates as Abercrombie Kids, has been found guilty of religious discrimination after it rejected the application of a 17-year-old Muslim employee who wears a hijab.

Reports said US District Court Judge Gregory Frizzel determined that the company was unable to provide enough evidence to prove its innocence.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) sued the company on behalf of Samantha Elauf. She applied for a sales position in 2008, but was rejected due to her hijab

Wearing head coverings is against company policy. Abercrombie stated that allowing the girl to wear one will cause the company to suffer from undue hardship.

However, its “look policy” has several exceptions. The court determined that the company was unable to assess the possible effects of these exceptions.
